Exelgyn is a pharmaceutical company specialising in reproductive women’s health. We have a worldwide presence and a strong European footprint. We were established in 1997 to develop and market the first selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM) in gynaecology*.
Today, Exelgyn is an international actor in medical abortion with its products available in nearly 40 countries where abortion is legal and where there is a medical infrastructure.

Our history
Initiation of a major research program by Dr. E. Sakiz and Prof. E. Beaulieu at Roussel-Uclaf aimed at developing an extensive range of new steroidal molecules with hormonal actions.
Discovery of the abortion pill.
Mifepristone becomes available in France under the name of Mifegyne®.
Mifepristone is approved in Great Britain and Sweden.
Establishment of Exelgyn to ensure the continued development, production and distribution of Mifegyne® worldwide.
Medical abortion treatment is added to the WHO list of essential medicines.
Beginning of the collaboration between Exelgyn and Nordic Pharma for the marketing and distribution of Mifegyne® in Scandinavia. In 2009, this agreement is extended to all European countries with Nordic Pharma.
Acquisition of Exelgyn by Nordic Pharma.
Approval of the first 400 mcg misoprostol. Several marketing authorisations are granted under the trade names MisoOne®, Topogyne® or Mispregnol®.
